ATV Accident Lawyers in Kansas City, Missouri

According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), ATVs are very dangerous vehicles. They cause more deaths and injuries than almost any other product under the CPSC’s jurisdiction.

According to data maintained by the CPSC, there are about 700 deaths and 100,000 injuries every year involving ATVs. In 2016 there were over 101,600 ATV-related injuries. 26% of those injuries involved children under
the age of 16.

Most ATV-related injuries and deaths occur while operating ATVs on paved surfaces. ATVs are not designed to be driven on paved surfaces, and paved surfaces can seriously affect the handling and control of ATVs.

Children do not have the physical or cognitive skills needed to stay safe on ATVs. 90 percent of ATV-related injuries involving children can be attributed to a lack of developmental skills needed to maneuver the faster, more powerful adult ATVs.

No one should ever lend an ATV to anyone who has not taken a training course or has not been driving at ATV for at least a year.

We recently settled a case involving a 14-year-old girl who was allowed to ride an ATV without her parents’ permission. She crashed the ATV and suffered a broken leg. We brought suit against the owners of the ATV for negligently allowing this young girl to ride the ATV and settled the case for policy limits.
