Steve Groves
Steven L. Groves is a trial lawyer with over twenty-five years of experience representing seriously injured people and their families. He has successfully tried cases in multiple jurisdictions, including Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Texas, and Arkansas. He has obtained numerous six and seven-figure jury verdicts and settlements for his clients in injury and wrongful death cases.
Throughout his entire career, Steve has helped hundreds of clients, including railroad employees from all crafts, get compensation for their injuries. Steve’s record-setting FELA verdicts include the first verdict against BNSF in a claim for a retired locomotive engineer who suffered back injuries from rough-riding engines and poor seats ($1.2 million). In 2015 he obtained the largest FELA verdict in the State of Missouri ($4.4 million). In 2018 he set records for personal injury verdicts in two separate Missouri Counties ($2.5 Million and $750,000- in service). Other trial results include a jury verdict of $1.7 million for his client, a locomotive engineer from Kansas with back injuries, and a verdict of $482,000 for a conductor with
an elbow injury.
Steve’s practice includes handling many other serious injury and death cases resulting from tractor-trailer crashes, railroad grade crossing collisions, automobile crashes, industrial injuries, and defective products. His jury trial results include a $1.3 million dollar verdict in 2012 for his client, who was injured in a bus/ambulance crash. A wrongful death case arising from tractor-trailer negligence was settled for $2.5 million.
Steve has the highest possible “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has received a number of awards over the years, including being selected as a Super Lawyer in Missouri and Kansas. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and the Past Chair of the Rail Law Section. He serves on the Board of Governors for the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas Bar Associations. He was elected a Judicial Commissioner by the lawyers in the 22nd Circuit of the State of Missouri (City of St. Louis) and served a six-year term as part of the Missouri non-partisan court plan.
Steve graduated from the University of Iowa and received a J.D., with honors, from Saint Louis University School of Law.
